New EEOC Know Your Rights Poster

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) just released a new Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal poster (dated October 20, 2022), which replaces the previous “EEO is the Law” poster. 

Under federal law, most of these protected classes apply to workplaces with 15 or more employees (including part-time employees who work at least 20 calendar weeks in this year or last), but the number is frequently lower under state laws.

The poster shares information about discrimination, harassment, and retailiation based on:

SexPregnancy and related conditions
Sexual orientationGender identity
National originReligion
Age (40 and older)Equal pay
DisabilityGenetic information
Retaliation for filing a charge; reasonably opposing discrimination; or participating in a discrimination lawsuit, investigation or proceeding

The poster must be placed in a conspicuous location in the workplace as soon as possible. The EEOC is using the poster as another step in educating employees, union members, or applicants about their rights and how to easily file a charge against you if they experience discrimination.
